Cruise Line Stocks Royal Caribbean International (RCL) and Carnival (CCL) have been very volital the past couple of weeks. Royal Caribbean's stock was at a yealy low of $19.16 back about July 14, and went as high as $28.75 on July 23. Today, August 1, 2008 RCL closed at $25.24. Royal Caribbean's earnings call was on July 22. It was then that they announced that the Company had laid off about 400 shoreside workers.
Carnival Cruise Line's stock was $31.23 on July 14, but soared to $41.15 on July 23!
If only I would had the forsight to invest in some of those shares on July 14th! I could take a cruise with the profits!!! :)
Smooth sailing!!!

Captain Dag and Jamie
Regent Seven Seas Voyager
This is the Regent Seven Seas Voyager docked in Fort Lauderdale, FL. My brother Jamie is the Cruise Director on this ship and my sister-in-law Dana is the Hostess. They are on this ship for six months out of the year while the ship does its annual World Cruise, and then for a short period in the summer or fall while the ship is in Europe.
My brother and sister-in-law met on the 1985 World Cruise on the Royal Viking Sky when my brother was the Assistant Cruise Director and my sister-in-law was a dancer in the production cast.
Dietmar and Family Easter 2008
Dietmar and Klaus
Here is a picture of two of the Hotel Director's I worked for, Dietmar Wertanzl and Klaus Rietzler. They are both from Austria. I did work for a few other Hotel Director's but these are the two I worked for the longest while I was Hotel Director Assistant on board the Royal Viking Sea. In this picture Dietmar is Hotel Director (he has the most stripes) and Klaus is the Food and Beverage Manager (only one stripe).
Royal Viking Line
Royal Viking Line was the premier cruise line of the 1970's and the 1980's. The line consisted of three sister ships:
- Royal Viking Star
- Royal Viking Sea
- Royal Viking Sky
These ships were stretched in the early 1980's. The above picture is how the ships looked after being stretched.
They sailed under the Norwegian Flag with Norwegian Officers and an international crew.
In the late 1980's the Royal Viking Sun was added to the Fleet. Later the smaller Royal Viking Queen became the last ship to sail with the fleet before the line became defunct.
